Do you ever get hungry? Too hungry to eat?

Holly's older sister, Giselle, is self-destructing. Haunted by her love-deprived relationship with her late father, this once strong role model and medical student, is gripped by anorexia. Holly, a track star, struggles to keep her own life in balance while coping with the mental and physical deterioration of her beloved sister. Together, they can feel themselves slipping and are holding on for dear life.

This honest look at the special bond between sisters is told from the perspective of both girls, as they alternate narrating each chapter. Gritty and often wryly funny, Skinny explores family relationships, love, pain, and the hunger for acceptance that drives all of us.

Skinny (Audible Audio Edition) lbi Kaslik Veronica Taylor Audible Studios Books

This is the story of a girl named Giselle, who is struggling with anorexia. Life is hard because her father just died and she is going through med school.

This book alternates between the main character and her little sister, who has a few problems of her own, with school and being near deaf.

Giselle's chapters sometimes contain flashbacks. They are memories of her father when she is younger, and how he showed extreme favoritism for the little sister.

SKINNY is very emotional. It's also NOT the cookie-cutter story of an anorexic. That's not a good thing though... some of the other reviews are right: Sol is a borderline pedofile, the medical dictionary entries at the beginning of chapters have nothing to do with the story, it never explains why the father (pretty much) hates Giselle, and the mother's character is very under-developed.

Also, I've never read a book with SO many typing errors. It was unbelievable! It's hard to focus on some parts of the book if you haven't read it in 2 or 3 days. Make time for it, if you dare decide to read it.

Oh, and the popsicle on the cover? It has no symbolic meaning at all. Pitiful.

Skinny (Audible Audio Edition) lbi Kaslik Veronica Taylor Audible Studios Books Reviews

So I was at my local dollar book store to help my younger brother find a bio book for a project and while I was helping looking, this book looked really interesting, I decided to go check it out on my . Reading page by page, I felt as if I had to go back and reread some of the paragraphs. I would recommend this book to someone with patience reading, but I just don't think this book was for me. Sorry. I would read it if I had nothing else to read! )
Dark, heart aching, and devestating. This is a book that you read and you feel it afterwards. Beautiful writing style, multiple points of view, and the descent of a woman into mental illness. Written real, gritty, and truthfully. Skinny doesn't hide behind subtext or illusion everything is as it seems. An extremely well written, and hunting work of literature.
This is one of my favorite books ever. I have read it at least 10 times. It's very gritty, sad and real.
A chilling tale of a broken child and a family's darkest and best-kept secrets, peppered with Twilightesque teenage drama and vacuous postproduction intervention. --Amelia
I recently read the kindle version of this book. I was excited to read it because of the good reviews, but after reading the book I don't understand why there were so many. The first 10 chapters are really slow and a storyline does not develop until after then. Even though there is a storyline, there is not a concrete plot to the book, otherwise a very minor one. The conflict and resolution is basically a descriptive story of of two sisters dealing with one of the sister's struggle with anorexia. I would not even recommend this book to a person who has an eating disorder because it has a very sad ending and gives the impression that if you suffer with this disease you will never overcome it. The only reason I gave this book two stars instead of one is because it was very poetic and eloquently written.
Anorexia was something I actually wished for as a teen but this book makes me glad for having a stronger inner voice that kept me from it. I saw a classmate in the E.R. a few hours before her death from this terrible disorder and it was one of the most horrifying sights. I've often asked myself why such a smart, vibrant and beautiful girl would deliberately starve herself to death. Mental illness is why. I should have known
I liked it, but I thought it was a book about dealing with eating disorders and instead, sometimes I forgot the problem was there. The story was great, I didnt like how it progressed to the end, still dont regret my purchase, but I feel the problem was not fully treated, I imagine thats how a girl with the issue lives, ignoring she has a problem. In that case, the book puts you in that exactly perspective. But without details.
